New Album Titled... “Gold Country”

We just arrived home from an incredible run of shows in Australia with Tom Gabel along with a 30 hour trip home from Perth! Needless to say, Australia is surely one of my all time favorite places to return too and it was absolutely great to get back and a blast for Jill and I to be playing and traveling with The Gabels and Graham Nixon from Resist Records. We can't thank Resist, Blue Murder, the show supporters and artists there enough for making us feel at home so far away from home! Just before heading overseas I finished up the last of the mixing and mastering of a new record I've recorded at Flying Whale Studios up here where I live in Northern California. Bruce Wheelock who's been the man behind the board engineering this record has done a brilliant job and I've been nothing but pleased to work with him. I've also had the pleasure of having some great friends come in to put their art and instrumented passion down to back me up. I can't thank everyone enough for their diligence, brilliant energy, smiles, jokes, critiques and sincere awesome moments of total musical inspiration! I couldn't be more fired up!  I'm very proud to call this new record “Gold Country.” Naming a project can be one of the hardest parts of the process. For me it always reveals itself when I just plain stop worrying about it.  While overseas we were walking around Melbourne and a title started to make total sense to me.  It considers the content and energy of which these songs were written, where they were written, where they were recorded and where everything I love and hold sacred is and where I work and shove to get home to.  This is the first record that I've officially produced in full myself and so far I'm extremely proud of it!  The official release date from our good friends at SideOneDummy Records will be September 1st, 2009. The CD and digital formats will be released and available by SideOneDummy while the vinyl version will be released on our own label Ten Four Records with art and design by Boris Vrbich.  Thank you everyone for your time and help supporting independent music!  I hope you enjoy "Gold Country!”

Pura Vida!

New Record Comin' Soon

Hello everyone! Thanks for your time for checking this out.  It's 6a.m., been up since 4, flying to Brisbane, Australia in less than 10 hours to meet up with Tom and Heather Gabel for a short run down under.  After that I'll be meeting up with the Lucero boys and Jon Gaunt for some shows with them as well as my own.  All is well on the Ragan front around here.  We've been running hard as usual and doing our best to keep afloat.  I just finished up a new record that'll be out on Side One Dummy soon.  This summer to be exact.  We're still thinking about a few different release dates then so those will follow shortly.  I'm extremely fired up to say the least.  These last sessions have been some of the most enjoyably intense sessions that I've ever had in my life.  I had the honor this time around of bringing in Jon Gaunt on the fiddle, Digger Barnes on bass, George Rebelo from HWM on drums and percussion, Todd Beene of Glossary on the Pedal Steel, a wonderful bunch of talented local friends like Paige, Daisy, Amy and Ethan from The Anderson Family singing and playing, Luke Janela on the cello, our neighbor Jayme Hardy singing and my good buddy Austin Lucas and his pipes.  I did all of these recordings at a wonderful place in the foothill woods of gold country called Flying Whale Studios with Bruce Wheelock.  I really look forward to getting this music out there soon to everyone!  In the meantime we'll be out and about here and there so check the sites for tour dates.  Hope to see you out!  We're also in the process of putting together this years Revival Tour which is really going to be something else.  We'll keep everyone posted as soon as we settle a bit after these trips.  Forward on and be well doing so!Thanks for everything!
